Tatra mountains
The Tatra Mountains, Tatras or Tatry (Tatry in both Polish and Slovak), constitute a mountain range which forms a natural border between Slovakia and Poland. They occupy an area of 750 km², the major part (600 km²) of which lies in Slovakia. The highest mountain is Gerlach at 2,655 m, located in Slovakia just north of Poprad. The north-western peak of Rysy (2,499 m) is the highest Polish mountain.
Those mountains form a popular winter sports area, with resorts such as Zakopane, called also "winter capital of Poland", Poprad and the town Vysoké Tatry ( The Town of High Tatras) in Slovakia created in 1999.
Five kilometers northeast of Zakopane lays the village of Poronin. Until 1990 Poronin had a Lenin Museum, housed in a former inn. More information
