Yitzhak Sadeh

Sadeh was born to a Jewish family in Lublin, in the Russian Partition of the Russian Empire (now in Poland). When World War I broke out, he joined the Imperial Russian Army. He had his share in the fighting and was decorated for bravery.
In 1920, Sadeh emigrated to Palestine (now Israel), where he became one of founders and leaders of Gdud HaAvoda (The Work Battalion). In the period from 1920 to 1948 he organized Jewish para military forces to fight against both, Arab and British opponents. In 1948 he had a leading role in the fight for settling an independent state of Israel. After the successful end of this fight he left the army.
