Świerad and Benedict

in Poland also called Żurawek, Żórawek, Sierad, Świrad, Wszechrad. In Slovak: Svorad, Andrej Svorad, Czech: Sverad, in Latin: Zoerardus.
He was a Benedictine monk originating from Poland but active in Slovakia (then Hungary), who is venerated as Saint Świerad in the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Churches. He was a hermit and was the teacher of the martyr Saint Benedict. Born about 980, according to tradition in southern Poland. He died around 1030 in his hermitage Skałka on the Váh river in Slovakia and was buried in Nitra.

came from ‘Polish lands’. Known as Benedict of Skalka. Initially a monk on Mount Zabor near Nitra, later a hermit, pupil of Andrzej Świerad. Murdered by robbers around 1033-1037 on the Váh river, buried in Nitra.
