In November 1941 a small group of Polish communists was parachuted into German-occupied Poland, where they contacted a few members of the old KPP. Władysław Gomułka was one of them. In 1942 the communist underground army was formed (Armia Ludowa). January 1944 Gomułka formed in Warsaw the National Homeland Council (KRN). It contained a mixture of communist and non-communist members, drawn from several left-wing parties. Bolesław Bierut was one of the leaders of the KRN. Ignoring the Polish exile governments view the Allies agreed at the Teheran Conference the Curzon line to be the new Soviet-Polish frontier.
On 22 July 1944 the first post-war government, the Polish Committee of National Liberation (PKWN) was formed under Soviet auspices in Lublin. It assisted its Soviet masters in administering the lands liberated from German occupation. Its was in function until the full emergence of the communist-led regime in 1947.
The Polish Government of National Unity was finally constituted in Moscow on June 28, 1945. The western allies withdraw recognition from the government in London At the Potsdam Conference the new Polish borders were confirmed.
