Santa Claus
Santa Claus is known in Polish as Święty Mikołaj.
He is a symbolic gift-giving person, who is based on the historical Saint Nicholas. Święty Mikołaj is an eminent character in the hearts and minds of millions of children and adults around the world who believe in him. The popular American form Santa Claus originated as a mispronunciation of Dutch 'Sinterklaas', which is a contracted form of Sint Nicolaas. Santa Claus has a suit that comes in many colors depending on the country.
In Poland Saint Nicolas is not connected with Christmas, but has his own name day: December 6. Children that have been polite thrue the year, get on this day presents from him.
